Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-0 1899 Hoffenheim (2026-05-16) was the last game of the Fohlen. Now Marvin Friedrich returns to Union Berlin. The 30-year-old defender signed a new contract until 2028. Friedrich was four years at Gladbach and played 91 games, one goal and one assist. In his last season, his importance decreased dramatically. Only five games were left. Friedrich explains: "I'm happy to be back at Union and my contract at Gladbach has expired. I'm looking forward to being here again. Now I want to help the team and the club to have a good season." Friedrich's return to Köpenick had been in the works for a while. Friedrich explains: "The talks were already going on for a while. I'm happy that it worked out in the summer. I told my agent at the time that I had a big desire to go back to Union if the opportunity arose." At Union, they know Friedrich's strengths exactly. President Dirk Zingler sees no reason for experiments. "With Marvin, we know exactly what we have. We know what he can do, and we also know what he can't do. With him, we're bringing in an experienced professional into our squad."
