Borussia Mönchengladbach has confirmed that central midfielder Jens Castrop will be out of action for several months due to a shoulder injury, suffered during the 15-0 victory over FC Rottach-Egern on Thursday. This is the third unfortunate incident in their pre-season preparations as key players Fabio Chiarodia and Juchym Konoplija also sustained injuries.

Castrop was a regular fixture for Gladbach last season, having joined from 2. Bundesliga side Nürnberg. The 23-year-old played at the World Cup as South Korea were knocked out in the group stage. "This is bitter news for all of us. We hope for a good and fast healing process," said Gladbach's chief Rouven Schröder.

Gladbach beat fellow Bundesliga side Hoffenheim 4-1 in a friendly game yesterday.
