Gladbach secures Daiki Hashioka until 2027

Borussia Mönchengladbach has taken 27‑year‑old Japanese centre‑back Daiki Hashioka on loan from Czech champions Slavia Prague. The loan runs until summer 2027 and includes a purchase option. Hashioka will wear the number 14 shirt and is expected to slot straight into the defence.

Why the signing matters

The club is reacting to the prolonged absence of new signing Yukhym Konoplya, who suffered an inner‑knee ligament tear in a friendly against Rot‑Weiss Essen (2‑1). Sporting director Rouven Schröder said, "Daiki is a quick, aerially strong and aggressive defender, ideally used on the right side of the back line or as a right centre‑back." Hashioka can also play centrally, giving Gladbach more tactical flexibility.

Gladbach's current situation

In the final 2025 league table Gladbach sits 14th in the Bundesliga with 30 points from 29 games (7 wins, 9 draws, 13 losses) and a recent form of L‑D‑D‑W‑L. The team has scored 35 goals and conceded 49, a ‑14 goal difference. They are 46 points behind leaders Bayern München. The next fixture is an away match against FSV Mainz 05 on 13 Feb 2027, with Mainz currently ninth.

What comes next?

Hashioka is expected to join the training camp immediately to adapt to Bundesliga pace. If he settles quickly, he could feature in the upcoming game against Mainz 05. The purchase option gives Gladbach long‑term security should the Japanese defender prove his worth. Fans can look forward to seeing how the new signing strengthens the back line and possibly improves the season’s objectives.

Voices from the club

"When my agent told me about Borussia's request, I was really happy. It was clear I wanted to do it, and I'm excited for the Bundesliga challenge," Hashioka said after arriving. The coach and teammates anticipate his experience and commitment to shore up the current defensive frailties.
