Gladbach's sports boss Rouven Schröder has demonstrated his power during the season analysis. Schröder and his team sat with coach Eugen Polanski, the management and the presidency to discuss the coach's future. Ultimately, Schröder's decision prevailed: Polanski will stay. Since his appointment in October, Schröder has built his own team of trusted associates and appointed two new directors, André Hechelmann and Christoph Menke-Salz. This strengthened his influence in the Gladbach power structure from the start. Polanski was left to ponder for weeks, which forced him to reflect on himself. Schröder wanted to ensure that Polanski would implement his ideas on structure and football. He gave his coach clear instructions in conversations: a bold game idea, more intensity, a system with a four-man defense, the integration of talents. Schröder is also taking a ruthless approach to the squad overhaul. He has clearly signaled to candidates for the chop that they should leave. For example, he pressured backup goalkeeper Jonas Omlin to leave by signing the cheaper Daniel Batz. On the transfer market, he has already achieved some successes before the complicated World Cup phase, reaching early agreements with Batz, Hugo Bolin, David Herold, Enzo Leopold, Yukhym Konoplya, and Zento Uno. Schröder is increasingly taking control at Gladbach. For the first time since the departure of former boss Max Eberl, Borussia has a leadership personality who is trusted internally and also gives the club a face in its external representation.
