Borussia Mönchengladbach closed out matchday three with a 5-0 defeat at SC Freiburg and have dropped to 18th in the Bundesliga table. While Gladbach were beaten heavily in the Breisgau, Borussia Dortmund won 5-0 on the same day and moved to the top of the standings, as Der Spiegel Fussball reported.
Five goals conceded in Freiburg
Nothing went right for the Borussia from the start in Freiburg. Yannick Engelhardt opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, set up by Derry Lionel Scherhant, before Igor Matanovic doubled the lead in the 29th minute with an assist from Matthias Ginter. After the break, Matanovic added his second in the 77th minute, Engelhardt struck again in the 79th minute off another Ginter assist, and Maximilian Eggestein completed the scoring in the 86th minute for the 5-0 final score.

Mainz visit next for Gladbach
There is little time to regroup. On September 19, Gladbach host FSV Mainz 05, currently 7th in the table, at their own stadium.
