Concerns about Mohya: Double Hack puts Gladbach on track
Borussia Mönchengladbach won 8:0 against SSVg Velbert on Wednesday, with 2100 spectators in attendance. In 2022, the Fohlen had already played in Velbert, under trainer Daniel Farke, but then against RKC Waalwijk (1:1).
What happened?
Trainer Eugen Polanski had to miss out on Jens Castrop (shoulder operation), Yukhym Konoplia (inner band injury in the knee) and Fabio Chiarodia (rehabilitation training after muscle tear in the thigh). Tim Kleindienst and Moritz Nicolas were also spared, not having to change. Tomas Cvancara and Nathan Ngoumou, who are no longer part of the plans, were not even there. But even so, Borussia managed to take the early lead: After a cross from Franck Honorat, Robin Hack scored an unusual header for 0:1 (11.). Double scorer Hack was also the one who, after a pass from Kevin Stöger from 17 meters, scored the 0:2 half-time score (34.).
Why is this important for Gladbach?
After the break, Polanski changed his entire team. After a brilliant pass from Nico Elvedi, Iaia Manco Danfa scored the 0:3 (51.). Twice Florian Neuhaus (61., 84.), Elias Vali Fard (63.), Shuto Machino (66., penalty) and Fritz Fleck (67.) secured the final score. Bitter: Wael Mohya, who was only substituted at halftime, had to leave the game again six minutes later due to thigh problems. Hopefully, the Super Jewel will not be out for longer.
What comes next?
The game against the Oberligist was the second-to-last test of the summer preparation. On Saturday (15.30), the Saisoneröffnung in the Borussia-Park against the Europa-League winner Aston Villa will be the last, real test. On August 23 (15.30), Gladbach will face its first DFB-Pokal game at TSV Schott Mainz – the game will be played in the stadium of Bundesliga rival Mainz 05.
