Borussia Mönchengladbach is looking back on a disappointing Bundesliga season, with a deep dive into the relegation zone in the fall of 2025. Despite ultimately holding on to the 12th place, several issues are pressing before the new season at Bökelberg. The responsible parties have a lot of work ahead of them. According to Sport Bild, the salary structure of the current squad is causing concern for sport director Rouven Schröder. Apparently, he would like to transfer Florian Neuhaus, Tomas Cvancara, Giovanni Reyna, and Joe Scally to the market. Neuhaus is said to earn around four million euros per year, making him one of the top earners, while the others earn between 1.5 and two million euros per season. The squad with 29 players is simply too large. The listed players are unlikely to be released without a problem. Neuhaus is said to have already decided to extend his contract until 2027. There were no concrete rumors about any of the supposed candidates. Cvancara is currently recovering from the consequences of an adductor operation.

The Sport Bild also considers the personnel on the Fohlen-Bank to be problematic. Eugen Polanski took over in November from the failed Gerardo Seoane and thus took on his first professional job. The former Gladbach midfielder was, however, frequently criticized. Although Schröder has since come to terms with him and Polanski has been contracted until 2028, a false start could quickly lead to unrest again.

Another problem is the lack of experience of the new signings. With Enzo Lepold (Hannover 96), Isac Lidberg (Darmstadt), and David Herold (KSC), a trio from the 2. Bundesliga was signed.
